Up Auction Today At Online Auto Connection Is this accurate & fully documented 1970 Mach I Pace Car. This car is truly breath taking and is one of the highest documented cars we have seen to date. This Pace car is being offered for sale straight from the owners personal collection. The American Raceways inc./Texas International Speed Way Story with the 1970 Ford Mustangs - In 1969 Ford and ARI Speed ways  made an agreement with Ford to build 100 High Performance Mustangs to be used and Pace Cars, Official Race Way and promotional vehicles. Ford took the order on and started to build these Mustangs - With all cars nearing completion ARI was quickly running out of money due to the build of the new Texas International Speedway that was scheduled to host the final race on December 7th, 1969 - Ford was stuck with the un-wanted cars Luckily, Ford was able to sell the cars to a group of auto brokers in Kansas City that was sponsoring a "Performance Day" celebration. Ford was able to sell 96 'Original ARI Mustangs' and 90 High Performance Torino's to the group that held their celebration at the local speedway on Nov., 11th, 1969. The 96 Mustangs, mostly Mach I's and 5 convertibles, were sent to a local Kansas City Detail Shop where the ARI Logo's were removed and replaced with an Oval Ford Logo on the front quarter and on the rear quarter a Twister Logo was applied. This is where the now sought after and rare Twister Special was born. So what happened to the remaining 4 cars? Most people have guessed that Ford stopped production at 96 cars, when it was learned that ARI would not be able to pay for the cars. ARI was having serious cash flow problems in late 1969, but the Grand Opening of the Texas International Speedway in College Station and the NASCAR Season Finale for 1969 was still a go, so Larry LoPatin (President of ARI) was able to get money from investors to raise the prize money to $100,000.00 to keep NASCAR (Bill France) from canceling the event. Larry LoPatin (ARI) still needed to have pace cars for the tracks and apparently was able to raise enough money to re-order and pay for another 100 ARI High Performance Mustang pace cars to be distributed to the 5 American Raceway Tracks. Halfway Through the build Ford ran out of the 428's and was forced to put the new 351c motor in the remaining cars. The build was successfully completed and the high-performance Mustangs where there for the grand opening and final NASCAR race at Texas International Speed Way on December 7th, 1969. To this day at least 90 percent of these ARI Mach I Pace cars have not been located from what we can see there have been 8 of these Mach's have been found not including ours. Now that you have the believed story of these RARE High Performance Pace cars here is some detailed information on ours. This car was purchased by our owner in 1997 from the a gentleman who bought the car in 80's from Texas at that time he had a complete and accurate nut and bolt rotisserie restoration performed to the highest standards. He kept the car for about years and sold it to our owner. He has had the car in his collection since then and keeps it in his climate controlled garage and drives it 2-3 times per year. This car is equipped with its original numbers matching drive train including the the 351c 4bbl motor and FMX Cuise-O-Matic transmission. This Mach was also ordered with air that currently still blows ice cold!!!! This car also has power steering, power brakes with front disc, am radio, working clock, white interior , FACTORY SHAKER car, tinted glass and so much more.
